Recently one of our friends asked about our perspective on moving to suburbs. Here is my second post on becoming a burb’s Mom from a city mom. We loved and enjoyed our city life and continued to adjust with our baby till he turned 2 year old. But our search begin as soon as we knew that we were going to be parents.

City Mum

Walk is everything in the city. We still had car and it came in always handy with groceries shopping (no longer pulling carts), long drive and doctor visits with baby. Walkability in burbs is more about the place you pick, close to downtown, parks, malls. Apart from daily walks around the neighborhood, we prefer our car for everything else. Driving is must in suburbs. New to driving, have no worry, you will pick it up in no time. Try driving classes for more confidence, practice whenever you have a chance and get used to it before the big move.

Our life has been same as it was in the city. It is more about the space and pace that changes around you. That’s all.

If you are serious about moving to sub, just pick a neighborhood which works for you guys in terms of good school district, safety, distance to work and budget. Pick what kind of house you would like — single family/ townhome/ Condos. Make sure to check the school districts ratingAbove all you need fall in love not just with the house but everything around it (neighborhood, downtown, parks, including shoprite and shopping malls 😊) !!. Start going for open houses. Drive around the neighborhood and nearby downtowns on weekends.

Suburbs Mum

Some of our friends even suggested to rent out apartment in the area you finalize on and stay for six months to get the feel of subs especially if you moving from city.

Above all, you need fall in love not just with the house but everything around it (neighborhood, downtown, parks, including supermarket and shopping malls 😊) !! That’s when you will make it work and adapt.
